King George V Playing Fields
Introduction
King George V Playing Fields is a cherished public park that sits between residential areas and the Riverside Valley Park, providing a vital green space for recreation, relaxation, and community engagement. Named in honor of King George V, who reigned from 1910 to 1936, this park reflects a commitment to preserving outdoor spaces for public enjoyment.
Fields in Trust
The park is recognised as a valued site under the Fields in Trust initiative — a nationwide organisation dedicated to protecting vital green spaces in perpetuity. Through this partnership, King George V Playing Fields is safeguarded for future generations, ensuring that the community will always have access to this essential resource for leisure and play.

Community Use
King George V Playing Fields is a hub for various recreational activities. The site is the home of Central FC, and is used by several other sporting clubs including Exeter International United, the Exeter City Girls' Junior Premier League teams, and the Exeter Spitfires Baseball Club. The expansive 40+ acre grounds feature sports fields, an accessible playground for children, and walking paths that invite visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Whether it’s a 'friendly' game of football, a lively baseball match, a family picnic, or walking with dogs, this park intends to cater to all ages and interests.
Place in the Community
As an integral part of our city and our community, King George V Playing Fields is a space social interaction and community engagement. Through the KGV project, the aim is to build on this activity by hosting events throughout the year, such as local festivals, sports tournaments, and community clean-up days. Through bringing together residents and promoting a sense of belonging, this park not only enhances the quality of life for those in the neighbourhood but also stands as a testament to the community's collective efforts to utilise and protect green spaces.
